Ciaran Murphy is relishing the chance to throw open his doors to the public for the first time as the trainer’s open mornings continue, writes Jack Lacey-Hatton.

Three years after taking over from Dot Love at Charlestown Stud, Murphy will be providing the public with an opportunity to experience the inner-workings of the yard on Saturday September 3 as part of the summer programme.

The Balnamona handler was handed a big boost last year when Enjoy D’Allen was bought by JP McManus before going on to run in the Randox Grand National and his prize eight-year-old will be one of those on show.

“This is my first event since I took over from Dot (Love)” said Murphy. “So obviously I want to make this count and show people the inside and the hard work that goes on behind the scenes and everything we do here.”

“We’re going to have refreshments throughout the morning and Robbie Irwin is going to be MCing.

“The plan will be to open the gates and let people see the horses and our facilities.

“We’ll hopefully get both existing and potential owners to come down and have a look and see the set-up we have.

“Just basically we want people to see the facilities, the place and the way we do things here.

“But we want everyone to come down. We’re not far from Mullingar here so it’ll be easy for a quite a few who’ve got an interest in the yard to come down and see what we’re doing at the moment.”

Murphy also confirmed that Enjoy D’Allen, who was last seen coming home ninth in the Irish Grand National 2022 will be riding out on the open morning.

“Enjoy D’Allen is back in now, he’s back cantering so obviously he’ll have some interest.

“We really think he’s got a big year ahead of him so it’s a great chance for people to come and see him.

“We’ve got a half and half split between flat runners and jumpers, we’ve got a lot of young horses coming through and are rebuilding at the moment.

“A lot of the horses haven’t run so far but they could be very exciting so we’re just holding our breath at the moment.

Murphy also believes it is a golden opportunity to showcase his operations work to potential owners and allow them to see not only the horses themselves, but the people that make the yard tick.

“It’s good for people to be able to walk around casually and see if they like the set-up and hopefully for newcomers to see a side of racing they might not be used to.

“Some might come and if they like the set-up then get in touch with us afterwards, it’s a real shop window for perspective owners.

“We’ll also have horses out on the gallops, hopefully it’ll be a great atmosphere and we’re really looking forward to showcasing the yard for a few hours.”
